Let's chat about Fez today, the heart and soul of Morocco.
This city isn't just a place on the map—it's like a living museum of wisdom, science, and serious spiritual vibes. Founded way back in the 9th century by Imam Idris II, Fez has always been the ultimate destination for anyone seeking some deep, spiritual enlightenment.
FYI, Imam Idris II wasn’t just a founder and wise ruler of the Idrisid dynasty in Morocco (791 to 828 AD)—he was seen as a spiritual giant too and played a significant role in early Islamic history in North Africa.
People believed his grave had healing powers, and centuries later, his incorrupt body was discovered, making his saintly status official. His descendants - the Idrisid Shurafa’, have kept his legacy alive, making Fez a powerhouse of spiritual and cultural significance.
During the Merinid era, Fez got a major glow-up with stunning madrasas, mosques, and religious buildings. The city also became famous for its Sufi zawiya, which have been nurturing spiritual education and community support for centuries. These places are like the heartbeat of Fez’s social and spiritual life.
Even when the French took over in 1912, Fez held on tight to its spiritual and cultural roots. It stayed a symbol of Islamic identity and strength, with Moroccan kings often swearing allegiance there. This tradition shows how central Fez is to the nation’s religious and political life.
Sayyid Muhammad Amine Al Idrisi Al Hasani - Living Legacy of Imam Idris.
Today, we’ve got Sayyid Muhammad Amine Al Idrisi Al Hasani, a direct descendant of Idris II. This great great grandson of Imam Idris is the real deal, always rocking the traditional Moroccan burnous. It’s not just about looking cool—it’s about honoring Morocco's rich cultural and spiritual heritage. His style and presence at international events especially in Asia, keep Fez’s legacy alive and kicking.
The way he dons the imama is reminiscent of the Prophet's era. The beauty of his imama - the crowns of Arabs, perfectly matched with his attire, leaves one speechless—mashaAllah. He shows us the beauty of Islam, demonstrating that Islam embraces beauty in all its forms. He constantly reminds us to the Prophet PBUH as the real owner of the imama.
Abd Allah son of Umar said:
"The Prophet would wrap the Imamah around his head and go back behind him, leaving his end hanging between his shoulders. "
He keep highlighting that the Prophet Muhammad didn’t limit himself to one color; his wardrobe was as diverse as his teachings.
For me, Sayyid Muhammad Amin Al Idrisi Al Hasani is truly an icon of Morocco, exemplifying the qualities of knowledge, piety, and noble character, much like the city of Fez itself!
Sayyid and Fez - an impressive duo, committed not only to their community but also to the rich traditions of the Zawiya.
When Covid shook the world in 2021, Sayyid started the weekly Jalsah Ithnain gathering at the Zaouia Derkaouia. He also reopened the Zaouia Sidi Qacem Al Alami Al Hassani, where they met every Thursday for Madih and Sufi Sama’a.
This shows his inner strength and strong belief in Allah's greatness. Sobhana Allah.
So, i am not suprised when Sayyid featured in online news of Morocco as exemplar of soft power in Morocco - means, a key figure in global spiritual diplomacy, especially in Asia and Africa, promoting moderate Islam and interfaith dialogue. His work reflects the timeless blend of Fez’s historical and spiritual essence, making him a modern guardian of the city’s legacy.

Look at him. He is the essence of Fez! - where history meets the present. Knowledge and spirituality are always trending, and the legacy of Imam Idris I and II continues to inspire with Sayyid is the touchbearer who carries the light!
Whether you’re into history, culture, or spiritual vibes, Fez is a city that’s sure to leave a lasting impression. Yeah, when you think of Morocco, Sayyid immediately comes to mind!
Till then.
